Breeding successes and other know-how of modern agricultural sciences, new types of machinery that replaced human labor, improved transport possibilities thanks to a modern infrastructure, the advances in refrigeration technology, new consumer demands and a completely changed relationship between farmers and the food trade due to the emergence of large supermarket chains must be considered as factors for the changes in the meat market, as well as the gradual orientation of West German agricultural policy to the requirements of the EEC after its foundation in 1957 and the opening of the West German agricultural market to foreign suppliers with the emergence of the common market in the EEC area in 1967/68.
